Being an apprentice has its advantages. Personally, I think the apprenticeship scheme is a fantastic experience in the working world and gives you real chance to put skills into practice. It’s brilliant way to kick start your career, as well it gives you experience in the working world as well as learning about that career. It also gives young individuals a chance to grow their talent. It can also have an influence on your future career.
Apprenticeships work by having a placement and then having a place to learn from which usually is from your apprenticeship provider. You get to gain essential skills in the business industry. It is beneficial to both yourself and the business, it’s an extra pair of hands to work alongside your business, reduces staff turnover, allows someone fresh so that the company can teach the apprentice from scratch. It has been spoken about that apprenticeships increase staff loyalty and retention, makes them more motivated to the company.
According to data the national apprenticeship service, 92% of companies that have taken on apprentices believes this leads to a more satisfied workforce and 80% have seen a significant increase in employee retention.
There is such a huge choice of different apprenticeships, which is brilliant for the younger generation and will guide school and college leavers into the right career path. Which means there is something out there for everyone. Apprenticeships are so open that it allows both genders to do a mix of roles. They have helped to train 7% more females into STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) roles.

Here at The Hive Enterprise Centre, myself and Grace are Digital Marketing apprentices. Throughout the course of our apprenticeship we will be involved in a variety of different business roles, such as going to events outside of the work placement and attending events inside the work placement. As well as being mainly focused on the digital marketing side we will also be learning about the events management side and basic admin roles. This will help us to expand within the company and give us key skills in the industry.
Overall, apprenticeship are highly recognised within loads of different businesses and give young people excellent work experience with professional training.
